![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve reproduced the sketches below, although the creature descriptions are my own, culled from the stories I heard as a child growing up in the Philippines and my own limited amateur research into Filipino folklore and myth:Īswang: The aswang is often described as the primary Filipino variety of the vampire archetype, although in many ways, it has more in common with the ghoul of Arabic folklore. These sketches, as far as I know, first appeared in print in 1977, as part of a hardcover portfolio entitled Satan’s Tears: The Art of Alex Niño, published by Detroit’s Land of Enchantment in a limited print run of 1000 signed and numbered copies (existing copies sell for up to $800 online).
